THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH
(Proverbs 29:18)
What is the mission of the church? Why are we here, what is our purpose, has God gloriously saved us only to sit out the remainder of our lives warming a pew or being entertained according to the lusts of our flesh, or is there some specific goal in mind? Does God not have purpose for each of us. Does God want us to have a meaningful walk with him. I believe that he does. There is no greater joy than to see souls getting saved and saints growing in the Lord. There is satisfaction when those elements are present in a church’s ministry and individual believers have meaning and lasting purpose in the work that they do for the Lord. But something has gone drastically wrong.
Many would have you believe by their great glowing testimonies that the church is all about being a "Social Club," which serves and caters to the whims of it members. This is one of the dangers of the seeker sensitive movement in many churches today. Throw out sound Biblical teaching, do not encourage appropriate dress but rather foster immodest and careless dress so that they can pander to the carnal nature of man. Get rid of the word of God and substitute for a substandard translation all the while claiming to be a Bible Believer (they stand boldly on the “original autographs” – you never read of a single speaker in the Bible who talked like they did not have God’s word -why should God’s preachers). While yet others want to be entertained, allowing the band on the stand, heavy metal guitars with music, dress, earrings the whole gambit to incite their flesh like never before. Neither is it a social platform for reformation, it is supposed to be for regeneration. EVANGELISM, is not "Social Service"or "Entertainment" it is the "Mission" of the Church. Mark 16:15-16.
Churches Fail Because They Have Turned Aside
They will talk a good talk about tolerance, getting along, getting active. They will listen to misapplied scriptures on the Beatitudes all the while giving the preacher the furrowed brow if he dares to mention a pet sin or take a hard-line on a social issue. The king they truly worship is king self. Their testimony means little to the people around them and the effects their example will have no sway over their conscience.
They hand out candy bars and bottled water, but no confrontation with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We wonder why America is morally bankrupt. I suppose that this is the "we we don't offend anyone" type of evangelism that you hear so much about. It does not take long for one to realize why the world is going to hell after hearing about the business conducted in modernistic churches.
Why are churches losing their force and influence in the world - FOCUS. In the words of Billy Sunday, “It is because there is not a definite effort put forth to persuade a definite person to accept a definite Saviour at a definite time -- and that time is NOW. That is the whole thing in a nutshell, boiled down to one sentence. That is why we are not making headway.”
So, while souls skid towards hell, modernistic churches continue to pander to the worldly crowd with no regard for the consequences. Preachers are up in arms about this nations godlessness as they have another Sunday with a meaningful worshipful experience deafend by the drums, guitars and screeching they call vocals. Meanwhile we have a generation growing up without the influence of the Bible, godly character and convictions about things that are right.
It is high time for a revival in the hearts of God’s people. We must get back to believing the Book (1 Thess 2:130) and preaching the old truths that turned this nation upside down for Christ.
